Felipe Melo wins the Copa Libertadores with Palmeiras

//

Brazil reigns in South America for the third consecutive year. Palmeiras retain the Copa Libertadores title they have won last season, what has not happened since River Plate did it in 2001. In the final, played in the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, they faced Flamengo. They were unable to turn the score around after the 2-1 Palmeiras advantage sealed in the fifth minute of the extra time. Felipe Melo, represented by Promoesport, captained the São Paulo team to the continental glory.

This is also the second Copa Libertadores in a row for the Brazilian footballer. One more trophy for the showcase of a player with a successful career: three leagues, two cups and three super-cups in Turkey with Galatasaray; two leagues and two cups in Brazil with Palmeiras and Cruzeiro; two Copas Libertadores with Palmeiras; and a Confederations Cup with the Brazilian national team.

The midfielder is having a great season as the club leader, both at a playing and a mental level. He has participated in 24 games, completing 33,7 passes every 90 minutes, on a remarkable 89% of success rate. Besides, defensively, he wins the 56% of his duels and makes 3,2 clearances and 1,2 interceptions per game.
